How To Plan A Stress-Free Photoshoot!

Whether it’s an engagement session, proposal, or even your wedding portraits, it’s so important to be relaxed and enjoy your photo session! I have a few tips and tricks to share for the ultimate guide on how to plan a stress-free session.

First consider the location: Picking a fun location, something with meaning will automatically make you a little less nervous. If possible chose a neutral place, such as a park, private estate, or even a little corner of the wedding venue that you can sneak away too! Not every session needs to be at the top of a mountain.

What to wear? Something fun, and comfortable. Bring a change of clothes if needed, have a fancier outfit to start with, and then change into something a little more casual/playful.

Let your smiles be real smiles! Laugh, giggle, play, whatever it is you need to do to be able to smile a genuine smile. If you are happy, it will show in photos. Have fun!

Bring a drink or pack a picnic. A champagne pop goes a long way for photos! Pour yourself a glass after you have a few laughs. Or maybe pack a full-on picnic!

Keep it simple! Sometimes the basics are the best. A little dressed down, one location, a lot of love!

Coordinate, not match – keep in mind that your outfits will look the most cohesive on camera when the color palette and wardrobe pieces coordinate, but don’t actually “match”. You should each wear a different dominant color, but stay within a similar color palette family. If you’re wearing a blush dress and nude heels (blush being your dominant color), then he could wear a navy coat with gray pants, paired with brown leather shoes and maybe even a blush pocket square. Now he has his own dominant color (navy) while still incorporating a few touches of your color palette.

Lastly, it’s important to take a moment for yourselves, it’s just a photo session, if it rains so what? If your dress is a little wrinkled, it’s ok. There is so much stress and pressure on the “perfect photo” – but your goal is just to have fun and be yourself.
