Real Weddings: A Fantastical Lord of the Rings Wedding

As a Williston visitor, you’ve probably visited Adams Apple Orchard & Farm Market for apple picking or fresh produce. However, the orchard holds a deeper significance for Kyla and Rowan, a newlywed couple who celebrated their wedding on the property, captured beautifully by Vermont wedding photographer Madison Anne Studio. With the orchard being a cherished part of Kyla’s family for three decades, it was the perfect setting for their big day! We can’t wait to share all of the details with you below.

A Whimsical Wedding Ceremony Among the Apple Trees

When planning their special day, Kyla and Rowan knew that one of the unique things they wanted to bring to the forefront was their shared love of  J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books. Therefore, the theme of their wedding was Middle-earth meets springtime garden party. (If you’ve seen the beginning of the first Hobbit movie, you’ll understand the vibe that the couple was going for!) Their photographer, Madison, was able to capture all of the whimsical details of their day, including a charming shot of well-read Lord of the Rings books alongside family pictures at the reception.

For their ceremony, the couple chose an open clearing framed by the orchard, featuring an arch adorned with pastel pink and purple blossoms. Complementing this were two baskets of potted flowers, mirroring the same delicate hues, placed on either side of the arch. Kyla and Rowan selected wooden folding chairs with white cushions to ensure their guests’ comfort.

Kyla donned a white lace dress embellished with floral designs that cascaded down her skirt. Her ensemble was completed with a flower crown and a string of pearls, creating an ethereal appearance reminiscent of the elves in The Lord of the Rings. In contrast, Rowan wore a strapless black gown with pleats and a front leg slit. She accessorized with a golden halo headband and a matching diamond necklace. We admired how the brides embraced contrasting styles, highlighting their individuality!

Both Kyla and Rowan wore their hair in four braids pulled into a ponytail, adding a charming matching detail to their wedding day looks. One of the most memorable elements of their wedding day attire was their colorful dried flower bouquets, destined to last a lifetime as a cherished keepsake. The brides also shared an intimate moment, reading their personal vows to each other amidst the apple trees before the reception began.

An Enchanted Wedding Reception in Middle-earth

When it was time to celebrate, guests made their way over to expansive tents conveniently located next to the ceremony site. Greeting the guests were two distinct signs: one playfully declaring “No admittance except on party business” as a charming homage to Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday celebration in The Lord of the Rings, and the other displaying an elegant seating chart. This seating chart was beautifully framed by lush potted plants against a mossy backdrop, adding to the enchanting atmosphere and garden party theme.

Beneath the party tent, tables adorned with forest green cloths and a variety of colorful table runners awaited the guests. Each table setting was exquisitely detailed, featuring ornate vintage-style green glasses, slices of tree trunks, and charming miniature honey pots for guests to take home as keepsakes. We are absolutely enchanted by the vibrant hues Kyla and Rowan managed to weave into their wedding décor while maintaining a cohesive and elegant theme. The head table for the wedding party was crafted from wood and adorned with a sage green runner, accompanied by a delightful assortment of multicolored glasses. Adding a whimsical touch, ceramic green polka dot mushrooms were scattered across the table. Dried flowers tied the entire tablescape together beautifully, perfectly matching the brides’ bouquets.

In between dancing, everyone enjoyed delicious dishes from Babas Tacos. As the reception neared its conclusion, the effervescent Crazy Cotton Candy Lady, made her grand entrance, bringing joy and laughter with her. Dressed in a vibrant pink Barbie movie-style jumpsuit, she perfectly matched the brides’ whimsical and playful energy.

The array of cotton candy flavors she brought was truly impressive, featuring options such as Strawberry Shortcake, Wedding Cake, Lavender Lemon, Lemon Blue Raz, Peach, and even Dill Pickle. There was truly a flavor to delight every palate, and the younger guests were particularly thrilled with their sweet treats.

Some of our favorite images captured by Madison were of Rowan and Kyla sharing a moment of pink cotton candy bliss, a fun-filled snapshot that radiated their deep affection for one another.

We absolutely adore how recent weddings have revived the trend of colorful table scapes and florals, especially during the vibrant spring and summer seasons in Vermont. Heartfelt congratulations to Rowan and Kyla on their magical celebration!
